I put a lot into names; character names, book names, series names. Too much time, probably. But I’m finally ready to announce the name of the first book in my up-and-coming paranormal romance series! This is so exciting. Drum roll please…. The series is called Creatures of Darkness, and the first book is titled A Wicked Hunger. You just got the shivers right? Me too. This story and the characters have truly stolen my heart. Unlike my Sci-fi series Shadow Quest, Creatures of Darkness is an earthbound paranormal romance. It’s set in dystopian future where vampires, humans, witches, and other supernatural beings struggle to live side by side. Needless to say, peace is tumultuous and a new uprising is always around the bend. The female lead begins as a somewhat tortured heroine who thinks her story ends in a rags to riches fairytale…that is, until her world is flipped inside out and sideways, and then smacked in the face a couple of times. Her journey, for me, is heart-wrenching and profound and will tug at even the most chilled heartstrings. For those of you who are hardcore Shadow Quest fans, don’t worry, I’m not finished with the series yet. There are many more stories to tell. But for now, my attention will be on Creatures of Darkness. *ducks a thrown chair* Lastly, I have to give a shout-out to all the fans!!! You make it possible for me to do what I love. Without you, all these stories would remain stuck in my head for no one but those brain gnomes to enjoy. You are awesome, and I am so grateful to you all. Stay tuned for the cover reveal of A Wicked Hunger here in the next week. His expression displayed a mix of irritation and amusement. “I know the concept of a hard day’s work is difficult for you to understand, pirate, and you’re functioning on a damaged moral compass—” “My moral compass may be damaged, but at least I’m not a slave to my baser needs.” She stilled. “And you’re saying I am.” “You are a demon after all. Your kind are notorious for their debauchee and barbarous natures.” She choked out a laugh, “My people are barbarous?” “You said it.” “And this coming from a pirate.” “You know nothing of it!” he snapped. “And you know nothing of me!” “I know more than you think. And even if I didn’t, I had you pegged purely by the manner in which you dress yourself.” That gave her pause and she resisted the urge to look down at herself. Her outfit was no more revealing than any other female on the ship. In fact, compared to some, she could be considered downright modest. Her skirts, she had to admit, were on the short side, but that was only to accommodate her tail, and nobody had ever commented on it before. Not that it mattered what anyone else thought of her, especially not some hypocritical pirate. “Get out of my pub before I smash your face into the wall,” she hissed. Instead, he took a step closer, goading her. Something in that action fired her blood in a way she’d never felt, and the pace of her heart increased with a surge of excitement. Sonya was used to people backing down when she issued a threat, they never willingly opened themselves up for attack. She tilted her head at him with renewed interest. via Kiersten Fay https://kierstenfay.wordpress.com/2016/09/13/an-excerpt-from-demon-untamed/ Originally Posted on: April 17, 2013 I’m delighted to announce that Demon Untamed is now available in all ebook formats. As soon as it is available, I will post it on Facebook, so be sure to Like my fan page here. It’s a bit unconventional to go back and re-tell a story from a different perspective, but I wanted to offer you Sonya and Ethan’s story in its entirety. Especially since they are one of my favorite saucy couples. So I hope you enjoy it. Here is a brief history of the genre. 1764 – Horace Walpole wrote The Castle of Otranto in 1764. This started the genre Gothic Novels, which combines elements of both horror and romance. Gothic Novels were so popular that even today, these novels generally include an isolated, vulnerable heroine; a dark, sardonic hero whose actions make him suspicious; and paranormal elements such as a family curse, omens, and vampires. Although the movement began with a man, the novels and their readers have been primarily women, and provided a vehicle for some of the first women to earn their living by writing. 1789 – Ann Radcliff was regarded as one of the most influential writers of her time. Her novel The Mysteries of Udolpho is a whopping 624 pages! 1897 – Bram Stoker published Dracula, creating the modern Vampire. The Age of The Bodice RippersA slew of fru-fru novels emerged in the mid-Twentieth century, depleting respectability of the romance genre and nearly killing it. 1973 – Anne Rice publishes Interview with the Vampire. 1977 – Alice Norton (a.k.a. Andre Norton) became the first female writer to produce a sci-fi fantasy that included a smidge of romance. Alice is also the first woman to receive the Gandalf Award from the World Science Fiction Society. All her pen names were male. 1987 – The first supernatural creature as a romantic partner appeared in The Ivory Key by Rita Clay Estrada. Modern gothic novelists have taken the genre further, adding vampires and werewolves to the mix, and empowering the heroine. 1992 – First futuristic romance appeared. Moondust and Madness by Janelle Taylor. 1997 – Buffy the Vampire Slayer hits TV, thoroughly reviving the supernatural and romance genres. via Kiersten Fay https://kierstenfay.wordpress.com/2016/09/10/history-of-paranormal-romance/ Mammoth Book Of Futuristic Romance is available now in paperback form.
